For me Leonard's version of "Hallelujah" from his album "Various positions" (1984) is the best one! Absolutely incomparable and unique!

Glad that the Shrek movie was mentioned. When two masterpieces came together...

John Cale's version as it is both magnificent version and probably the one that made Jeff Buckley's wanted to also cover it. And then a quite unknown song became a (so much deserved) world famous standard. Cale's version is the final track on the I'm you fan tribute album released in 1991, highly recommended to every Leonard's fan.

LC’s original is simply beautiful. My favorite cover is Rufus Wainwright. There is a version of Choir!Choir!Choir! doing it with a couple thousand people.
