Linux For Everyone

Hello my friends,
You've probably noticed a loud absence of podcasts and videos lately, and I'm sorry about that. The reason is straightforward, if difficult to acknowledge.

Put simply: it's time for me to get a "real job." Late last year I realized that years of relying daily on my creative energy has left me overworked and burned out in the face of unstable and ever-fluctuating income.

Producing written content, podcasts, and video as well as building the Linux For Everyone community has been incredibly exciting and personally rewarding, but also exhausting.

I'm choosing now to put my energy and experience into a career that's still within the Linux ecosystem, but one that comes with stability and a reliable paycheck.

I can't disclose all those details yet, but until things are finalized, I will continue to write about Desktop Linux and Linux gaming (hopefully I'll continue to do that AFTER I land the job) at openforeveryone.net/.

You can stay in touch with me on Twitter (twitter.com/killyourfm)

SO NO MORE PODCASTS & VIDEOS?

In a perfect world, I'd love to hand the keys to the community to be carefully looked after, and I would occasionally show up as a guest. The Linux For Everyone brand is special, and it needs to stay alive to spread the excitement of discovering Linux. I'll be exploring ways to do this in the months ahead.

Thank you for taking this journey with me! I'm leaving the driver's seat, but it's hopefully not the end of the ride.

Until we chat again, take care! And take care of each other.

@DSTechMedia

As someone who also makes videos and content focused around tech/open-source(mostly Linux) I can completely empathize with your situation man. Doing anything creative is hard to rely on as a repeatable, reliable, and predictable endeavor. I know that I have to publish videos on a constant basis, and that drives me to do so, but it's not at all easy and not always enjoyable. I've always admired your spirit and personality in your videos man, you come across as a very genuine dude and I always found things about you outside of Linux someone I can relate with. Best of luck to you man, I hope the career goes well and you can find some peace and equilibrium in a time where we could all use some. God bless.

Hey, Jason, Been missing your content in the time I watch videos for a few months now. I definitely understand your reasoning and glad for you that you're working (and I hope will soon also figure out) a solution that will balance your income height and stability, the amount of energy and time you put in to get there, your enjoyment and passion of what you invest resources into, and advancing and improving the Linux community. Have you considered hiring editors - and maybe also writers with the money you're going to get, or trying to promote people from the community? As I suggested you before privately - not hand in the keys, but move to a more managerial position that would require less time and energy of you.

@LivingLinux

I wish you all the best. Really enjoyed a lot of your videos. It might be a long shot, but Canonical is looking for a Linux Desktop Gaming Product Manager. Who knows if it is a match.
