An additional idea if you've ever seen ore spawn they have all those wild mobs from 1.7.2 there was this worm creature who could pop up out of blocks and go back down into them and hide like clipping through to avoid being hit. Imagine parasites that burrow into flesh blocks weaving in and out so you only see them for a second making combat with them super interesting. Maybe sone variants are queens and huge others can like spit for a ranged option. Maybe some can be tammed and ridden like a giant worm sandy from SpongeBob was riding.

Any way you could do integration with other mods like add recipes or machine interfacing. Say mekanism bio fuel you can feed it meat that would be double the efficiency to bio fuel generators. Or a meat bee from that one bee mod that adds bees for automating recourses. It could like drip meat juices when it's pollinated and only pollinate from meat specific blocks from your mod.
