(My honest opinion, feel free to say what you want lol.)

{Rant? šŸ˜„}

Is it just me? Or do I have a problem with this?—

I literally cosplayed as Sailor Moon (Crystal Version) this Halloween, and I am extremely MAD and disappointed as to the way Ice Spice was cosplaying her while basically having her whole ch—ks out for a damn concert, it looks so gross to me…. 😭

I’ma be fair, the cosplay in general is VERY good! Twice as better than mine ngl! It’s cute! It’s gorgeous and high quality too, which makes all the more sense to make the cosplay look very alive (Because I was missing some parts of the cosplay which was the boots & the white pearl pieces from the Crystal Version + I bought the cosplay on my birthday from Amazon which was months ago and crafted some parts myself to match it up).

Ice Spice is cool and all, and I listen to her music when I’m in some sort of mood— But as a Sailor Moon fan, I find it quite disturbing as to how she is basically is just wearing the costume while just showing off her a— while performing. Just think about it… Seriously?… Like what the hell!? 😭

Mind yall, Usagi/Sailor Moon is a middle school/highschool student and is still a CHILD, (Ranging around 14-16 by manga/series through timeline) and I technically don’t like the fact that she’s kinda being sexualized/mischaracterized like that. It doesn’t look right to me, and plus it’s possible that Spice is an anime fan according to one of her song lyrics from the song ā€œDeliā€: ā€œGoku and I'm just gettin' started.ā€ Oh well, she might be just cosplaying like that because it’s just for the Tokyo concert or possibly gain a little attention to maybe try and attract viewers or so. But for sure, she knows what she’s doing.

I don’t know if this for sure might be a similar case to the fact of how Megan The Stallion ALSO cosplayed Sailor Moon a while back, did some photoshoots of her and then performed in Tokyo?... Yet in a different case of how Megan presented her concert cosplay other than Ice Spice— You can say it was like an apron… 😭 Yeah, I saw what it looked like. The front photo of the fit looked normal, but I can’t show the back photo of her cosplay bc I’ll probably get demonized or strike by YouTube itself.

But no matter, the other version of Meg’s Sailor Moon cosplay that I saw on TikTok & Insta with her dancing to one of her popular songs ā€œMamushiā€ looked so much better since it was full on and nicely well done to match the Sailor vibe. (People really didn’t bat an eye on her first costume which was strange + the TikTok she created might’ve been a distraction or something, but all of my hypothesis certainly can’t be true to that.) I honestly wished that she wore that appropriate costume to her concert though. It would’ve made her show look so much better but technically she would ended up performing the same way as Spice within the music being performed on stage. (Yes I am a fan of Megan, but I ain’t tryna cover up my utmost concern with favoritism because her costume IN GENERAL for the concert was actually more concerning than Ice Spice’s way of SHOWING OFF the cosplay in performance mode to how I saw it... šŸ˜šŸ„€)

At the end of the day, Ice Spice’s cosplay for her concert was very pretty, but I just felt like the way she performed while cosplaying Sailor Moon low-key felt maybe offensive to me as a fan. (despite the fact Megan also did the same lol— šŸ˜€) Comparing to how I view both Ice and Megan’s costumes, it was cutesy and wonderful; but to other fans and I, it possibly would’ve been seen as misinterpreting the character within performance and photo wise by sexualizing yourself and then calling it a ā€œBaddie Version.ā€ šŸ˜…

But you know? Cosplaying is for everyone and everybody no matter EVERYTHING of who the person is or the circumstances, there’s no limits! You have the desiring free will to make MANY different choices and versions of the interpreted cosplay as you wish! Cosplaying may not have rules, but there are certain boundaries within cosplaying that are deep and CANONICALLY shouldn’t be crossed nor broken according to the written character (Such as diversity of race, religion, and so forth which is seen as an ongoing problem that’s still happening within the variety of the cosplay community).

In closing, cosplaying gives you the will to show off your interests, connect with a community, become imaginative, and act as a certain person that you’re dressing up as! Meaningly, you’re also participating in expressing your artistic creativity! Feel free to do whatever! But just a reminder when you cosplay, try not to horrifically mischaracterize the specific character you’re dressing up as, otherwise you’ll be attacked chaotically by fans…! šŸ˜…

Whoever made it to the end, thanks for reading!✨ What are your overall thoughts on this matter? Do you see this as a problem or not? šŸ¤”
