Should killers who confess to murders receive reduced sentences automatically?

@ComedianJoJo

Because killer and reduced sentences should not be a "thing".

If you can't do the time don't do the crime

Because under no circumstances should anyone ever be rewarded in any way for taking someone’s life!

I originally chose yes, because I do think there should be incentive for people who are guilty to confess fully as quickly as possible, for a range of reasons. But then I read the word "automatically," and I changed my mind. Every situation is so different, and these kinds of things should be taken on a case by case. Some people won't necessarily be an ongoing threat to society, while others unquestionably will

@Whatchoodune

It doesn't make the victim return to life

Their feeling of fear (of accountability & punishment) CANNOT EVER DIMINISH that of their innocent victims! Justice Matters

The seriousness of murder overshadows telling the truth.

Anyone who takes a life deserves to lose their life or their freedom, if they confess then the death penalty should be removed but no they shouldn't get less prison time. A lot of times a murderer will find a reason to kill again, they just get better at hiding their crimes. There's been situations where someone has almost killed or did kill someone then they get released and sometimes became serial killers after.

@Eirinen3of4

No, they killed someone.

@evilqueenyiayia

Death Penalty gets taken off the table when perp confesses instead of going to trial.

@PamelaAsh50

Because even though you fess up doesn't make you any less guilty of the crime . The punishment should fit the crime

Yes. 99 years

Still took someone's life. Doesn't change just because you confess. The family and friends feel the pain for the rest of their lives. The killer shouldn't get it easy.

Depends. In instances of coercive control, sure. Some children/spouses live in households of severe neglect and DV. I think that if they confess and give info to put a monster with "clean hands" away, why not!

Because every scenario is different.

I mean, maybe an extra pillow in prison or something.

The confessions I’ve seen and read those mfs were happy they did it…

@sharonhill7363

Because they don't deserve to be told the truth. They took the rights away from the person they murdered so why do we care about his feelings? Tell them "if you confess we'll lower your sentence", then go back on it. Aawwww, too bad...

I'm for it saves so much of my tax money on ridiculous court costs

That is one of the dumbest questions I’ve ever heard. 🙄
