Alex The Analyst

Over the years I've learned that Communication is one of my most powerful skills - especially as an Introvert (which I definitely am).

It's helped me land Interviews, Jobs, Contracts, Customers, and Opportunities that I would never had the chance to get.

If I only had Technical skills I would not have made it this far.

I wasn't always good at communicating though. I used to bomb interviews and fail presentations, but I started improving and getting better - because it's a skill that can be learned.

Here are some of my Biggest tips on how to be a better Communicator:
1. Active Listening is Crucial
Instead of thinking about what you’ll say next, really listen. Ask follow-up questions and show the other person you value what they’re saying.

2. Smile and Be Positive
Your energy sets the tone. Positivity makes people more open, more engaged, and more likely to remember the conversation in a good way. Most people like working and talking with happy/positive people.

3. Fake it Till You Make it
I don't care what anyone says - I definitely faked it at first. I am not a confident outgoing extrovert that is just good at everything. Confidence comes with practice. Even if you don’t feel it yet, acting confident helps you grow into it over time.

@ScarletFelicia

I'm also an introverted person. But, since the day I started teaching at a junior high school, I can't let my students feel my built-in "poker face". So I started adding a smile in between my teaching, lectures, activities, and even chitchatting with my family. It's been a year now since I implemented the smiling face. My students feel more engaged with me and they willingly open themselves to me. People also said that they really enjoyed it when talking to me because of how I radiate positive vibes when talking whatever the topic at hand is. Communication and gesture really helps in life!

Thank you so much Alex. Being an introvert, I know communication is one of my biggest challenge, but I'm starting to work on that.

I'm also very introverted but I have no problem public speaking and networking, but holding small talk and a light conversation... thats where I'll draw the line 😂

This is what I struggle with, especially in interviews. I’m so confident before the interview starts but as soon it starts I get nervous and forget things. And don’t let it be a video interview, I automatically bomb it 😢

@mikeegbekun3071

I totally agree with this. Communication isxa huge part of work or business.

I definitely think you should make a video regarding this topic. Just realized how bad I am communicating when a video is on compared to when I’m in the shower practicing lol

Agreed! Could you make a video on communication for someone working in corporate? As a technical person, I would love to communicate project challenges, setting expectations straight, and learning to communicate when you need help.
