There have been only two times I’ve thought the gun mode worked narratively. The machinima show where he turns into a huge laser rifle briefly and Optimus fires him at somebody. And the recent Skybound comics where he literally seizes control of who ever wields him and forces them to shoot even if they don’t want to. But in both instance the gun is a third mode, and he’s still a tank the rest of the time.

Glad not EVERYONE is hating on this, but not as happy to know you're still around!

They have a knack for showing off all the right things when you get ready to effectively retire don’t they

I'll always prefer Helicopter over tank, for Megatron, myself, but this thing is absolutely gorgeous

if i were in charge, id make him transform into a turret, but a tank is still good

I love how his G1 alt mode is rendered as a handheld weapon accessory just so it isn't completely left out.

As a kid, I didn't have Megatron, but anyone I saw holding that shiny G1 pistol, seemed so cool and happy. His alt was all about the toy, and boys loved realistic gun toys back when they were allowed. Now I'd prefer this though, G1 one bot, into a tank.

I mean, you’re technically correct. Becoming a tank is way more “realistic” for a warlord than becoming SOMEONE ELSE’s ultimate weapon. It did look hella cool though. I can’t deny it was wild to see him become a gun and blow fools away with everyone from a random human gangster to Optimus Prime himself pulling the trigger.

Finally, i can stop chasing the "ideal Megatron" figure. Ive gotten at least 4 to try and fill that spot. Still got 2,but i learned to appreciate them on thier own

Megatron as a gun makes him iconic. A leader that, literally, leads from the front, that expects nothing he won’t do himself. It was a bold choice and, 40 years later, we can see it worked. Laws have changed, so this tank version looks spectacular.

Like your skit suggests, Starscream (or really anyone if they felt like it) could just slam him on the ground and stomp him, since Megatron is so old I doubt he’d be able to transform in time to survive this attack.

It is false advertising calling this 86 megatron. This is a gamer edition devastation megatron at best.

The everlasting dilemma of sacrificing the vehicle mode for the robot mode or the robot mode for the vehicle mode...

Megatrons tank vs gun mode history is so interesting to me. One of the more interesting deep dives in transformers IMO

THE MAN HAS SPOKEN! I agree, but I still appreciate the gun mode in the sense that it represents megatron as an instrument of destruction and death.

Completely agree. My only complaint is just a personal gripe: I’m not a huge fan of the “tank turret is just elbows squeezing a gun” transformation scheme that they keep using, but I don’t know how else they could pull this off so it’s fine.

Dang, he looks better than the New Age... Romulus? I forgot the name, but DANG LOOK AT HIM! HE'S ONE HECK OF A FIGURE!

That tank is almost ok. Like its almost an early leopard 2. A few tweaks to the turret/upper arms and i could love this

The shoulders needed to be wider but at least that looks like an easy fix

The Lazy Eyebrow
This is EXACTLY what I've been saying a mainline Megatron should be for years. G1 looking Megatron, with no tank kibble that turns into an alright tank
Honestly I wish we could go back in time and just change Megatron into a tank from the getgo, it makes way more sense for the decepticon leader than just "oh he turns into someone's target master"
