No one can hate Shakespeare unless they have really read his works. Dude's the goat of the goats

I’m at that stage in life where if Shakespeare isn’t your cup of tea, you are not my cup of tea frankly!

A very important subject to cover by this channel given how endlessly influential his works are in English. This is a good follow up to the episode on the King James Bible.

Discovered his work when I was a child thanks to BBC series of television adaptations of the plays of William Shakespeare from 1978. I was enchanted from the language and stories. When I grow up I've read the plays and was blown away from all of them, especially the Tempest. So much magic, symbols, emotions... Can't wait to see your work!

What convinced me to give Shakespeare a fair shor outside of school was a scene in the Van Gogh biopic At Eternity’s Gate, in which Van Gogh explains to a tavern keeper why he likes Shakespeare, despite not being clear sometimes.

Please make a playlist of your videos so they can be binge-watched without interruption. The “auto play” feature often introduces other videos for variety. Love your work (books and art!!) SO masterfully done.

I have been re-watching Olivier's performance of Richard III's soliloquy multiple times and it has almost pushed me to revisit Shakespeare. I hope your essay will be the final push I need!! There's just something so enigmatic about Shakespeare's verses once you actually see someone act them out.

Great Books Explained
Coming this Friday (8pm UK time) is my introductory film on Shakespeare. I realise Shakespeare isn't everyone's cup of tea, but as someone (me) who once really disliked his work, but am now passionate about it, I really feel like my film will spark an interest in even the most ardent Shakespeare-hater.
This is Not a definitive history but rather a loving video essay with LOTS of my favourite film clips from some of the best Shakespeare interpreters (Cumberbatch, Olivier, Mirren, Branagh, Welles and more).
Give it a try - I really hope you like it!
Best, James
