@barcey

This is probably more mild spicy but all this post DT story involving Calyx should have been in the main DT story instead of Vtuber Speen and Zoraal Ja wanting to Shang Tsung the source. It made Zoraal Ja's involvement in the story ended up feeling like an afterthought. We could have gotten some interesting developments like why did Calyx allow some primitive lizard guy gain so much power with the system?

@the.duck.is.ronin.

Calyx appeared for two patches and is still a more compelling villain than anyone since Elidibus in 5.3

Hot take #3 The dev teams are too afraid of going back and using older content that on paper was a fantastic idea but when launched was not very well received due to poor execution. Island sanctuary is a fantastic example of this. Instead of putting extra time and resources into building out brand new content that you run the risk of being poorly executed all over again, just use something that you’ve done before and just make it better. But give the community a way of providing you the feedback of what would truly make it better. Hell I would even argue that they should use some of the older zones and implement something that’s fresh and new into them to bring new life into those zones.

The next ranged physical job should be gambler or blitzer, they could have us travel to the shard that’s covered in water and there could be some survivors who end up playing blitzball (I know this won’t happen but let me dream) oh and sword saint should be the next class if neither of those work

While I did like the Alexandrian story, it feels really bizarre that the entire region of Yok Tural was that underused when it's so rare for South America to be a fantasy setting. So much mythos to pull from that's wasted. They made a cyberpunk town and just completely ignored the fantasy settings that were /right there./

All the classes have become the same. No substance, just all flair. The mechanical density of the game is practically gone, replaced with casual fortnite-style gameplay with "chance to proct" mechanics. So long as it's easy and safe, Creatively Bankrupt Unit 3 will approve.

Watch the clear rates increase for ex5 and then CS3 is like ‘damn game too easy’ and makes Ultimate Chaotic for the next odd numbered patch

My hot take some executives from SE need to be let go the game is failing and a new direction someone “important needs to go wether that’s Yoshi P, Ozma, or someone else. Someone needs to take the fall for the decline of the game and fix the systemic issues this game has had for several years. And “spaghetti code” isn’t gonna cut it anymore

Ishikawa's personal preference with everyone being merry and happy at the end is what led them to write the plot of the first part of Dawntrail and make the game look as if written for toddlers and devoid of any interesting twists.

Steps of faith was a good trial and a bell weather for all the irritations regarding the battle system they came after it to this day.

7.2 felt like the story woke up after the Buffalo coma. I have no idea why that wasn’t a side quest. Hell it would have been a meaningful side quest at that. We should have spent time with Geode in 7.1; chasing robots and investigating small hints of preservation. This way we would have built rapport and let it stew before they gave him the Stormblood send off. If Dawntrail is the Summer vacation, 8.0 needs to be the scary spooky Autumn. Villains that treat us like a threat, villains with a reason to hate us as much as we loathe them. Someone from Mericida should be spicy as hell that we helped Garlamould during the End of Days. Hells, I want Oblivion to become our new scion organization, if only so there can be a trailer line that goes 1/3 as hard as “Become the Warrior of Darkness.” Something like “Our enemies are Eternal, sacrificing all to preserve only who they deem worthy. Only Oblivion can save us from their machinations.” And so that Shale joins the crew as at least tech support.

Hot Take #1: FFXIV should try to shake things up with the story and patch cycles. Perhaps try once per year expansions with 1-2 sub patches throughout the year and have 2-3 years worth of content all telling an overarching story that would have otherwise been crammed into one big expac. They could even slowly roll zones and regions this way instead of having an entire continent being represented by 2 zones launch in an expac (highly disappointing when they do this). But this would also be a good drip feed content release in comparison to the patch cycles we have currently. It also could allow faster course corrections based on community feedback.

Hot Take #2: the FFXIV team needs to improve their community engagement and outreach and make it friendlier to feedback and criticism. The official forums just aren’t working if what we have is the result of official forum posts. Or at the very least make the forums more accessible by implementing the forums inside of the companion app, not just a link to the forums (their websites are horrible). And also, if they’re going to use the forums for obtaining their feedback, when someone provides feedback, the dev team needs to analyze how that player interacts with the game to gain a better understanding of the feedback.

Every change we get is already hardcoded again. Square Enix needs to stop fearing randomness.

Loved 7.3 brought alot of fun new things with the investigations and what not. Story was great end boss (obvious as it was) was a stellar fight. Even the bit at the end was great, even if I called it but I digress. What really got me scratching my head was Geodude's death. Like bro could've just bailed outta that situation instead he just stands there like a lemon. Seemed like a typical 14 forced death event. And while Nostalgia had a good moment out of it. It had just left me I don't know not impressed. Also let our girl heal.

Its not about jobs or fights i think its more about depth- we have reached the point where everything is explained about the story all we need to do now is explore. They should have spent more time addressing the feel of the MMO other then just graphics- like opening up the maps connecting zones to eachother without loading screens. Mounting up and flying out of the city- getting rid of invisible walls. The game as of 7.3 is very nice graphically but all of the old ARR restrictions they keep putting on themseleves is showing. There can be so much more and there is legit no reason it can't be because money is def not the issue no matter how much sqe/ defenders cry about it when your sitting in the top 3 MMO's of all time. If they don't pull up their socks and catch the bull by the horn this year the long development cycles of 2-3 years to implement simple changes is going to kill the game.

My hot take is that Yoshi P made a huge mistake allowing all the degenerate modders (such as the Hrothgars that make the most disgusting and freaky of mods) to go unchecked for far too long. That is one of the main pillars of the toxic positivity bubble the great community btw has created. How many times did I heard "Yoshi P won't ban modders cuz it's how they make money." Those are the same people crying, saying we should Ctrl+alt+delete ourselves cuz we didn't liked Wuk Lamat.

@lycanstark8328

Probably not a hot take, but. The puzzles during the laboratory section in 7.3 were one too many. I'm all for adding other non combative sections to gameplay during MSQ, but it just felt like it dragged during that part. Side note about non combat quest. Can we not get a trailing behind someone at a distance quest ever again?

Casuals ruined the game. As well as toxic positivity
