I guess it depends. Like non violent disorderly probably not. But stealing a 4000$ laptop without violence? You pay up or stay locked up. That shit is why you have to wait an hour pressing a button just to get stuff out of glass cases at the store.

Non violent crimes can mean a lot of things - even a house burglary can be 'non-violent' but I wouldn't want them just let out if someone broke into my house...

Absolutely not! A person’s wealth, or lack there of, should not dictate freedom.

Bail on its own should be abolished because it inherently benefits the wealthy while weakening the working class

I live in NYC and there’s been plenty of cases dealing with assault where the perpetrator has been let go for petty crimes over and over and over again. It’s tiring.

If not you won’t have any retailers left in your cities. Hello McFly

It depends on a lot of things. Are they a flight risk? Do they have a criminal history? Are they likely to re offend if they're released? I think it also depends on the nature of the offense. Stealing a loaf of bread from the store because they're hungry and can't afford food is very different from stealing a $10,000 designer watch that they intend to sell to buy drugs with.

Everyone essentially voting that if you’re rich, you should be able to get out on bail. Lol

Non violent crimes can be as serious as violent crimes It all comes down to what the person steals The poor will take only what they need to live The greedy steal for money

Shoplifting is non violent but that can be a serious crime depending on circumstances.

Take it case by case. Flight risks, re offending etc.. we need to build more prisons or free up space in the ones we have.

“Flight Risk”? More like REPEAT offenders. So many arrested and let go have OVER 50, 60 or 70 arrests!!

Maybe just bad thieves becuz they seem to get off every time with no repercussions

I'd rather live in a world with free criminals than a world where I can be locked up for no good reason. I'm allowed to defend myself against criminals, but not the state

Stealing is considered "nonviolent" & only one example. Need to stay in jail or be tethered

Should people arrested for non-violent crimes be held in jail if they can’t afford bail?
