Dad of a one year old here in Australia. This is so true. My childhood was being out playing with the neighbourhood kids until ‘the street lights came on’ then it was home for dinner. That culture is now gone. But I accept your mission. We have our little one doing kids gymnastics, swimming and we are currently on a two week hiking and outdoor holiday in Tasmania where he interacts with nature every day. So I accept your mission Ben, with all my heart. From one dad to another. Thank you for the post, we need more of this!

I left my career in the fire service to be a homeschool dad and haven’t looked back. I appreciate you shining light on this issue.

I just had my first baby 5 weeks ago. A boy and I couldn’t be happier. I can’t wait to teach him how to do all my favorite activities such as mountain bike, boxing, jujitsu, swim in the ocean etc. I feel like these days if your raise your kids right (not rely on iPads) they will be light years ahead of their peers. Also I sent you a msg a few years ago when I blew my knee out at juijuitsu. You took the time to respond giving me rehab exercises to start with. Sent me links with instructions on how to do them and progress and I’ve been following your stuff ever since. My knee is better now and I’m back doing juijuitsu and biking and lifting no issues. You didn’t need to do that. Thanks for doing it tho. I think your content is awesome.

hey, just wanted to say a few months ago I started watching your videos. I have had knee pain on the other side of hip replacement side. I have always been very active but, my knee pain just keep slowing me down. I have tried everything to get back and nothing worked till I started doing your recommended stretches. It has been slow but, it is getting better with less pain. I am able to run, jump and I feel my confident. Thank you so much and I am a big fan of your channel. Thanks for helping me out.

Hi Ben! It's still the same in Russia. Kids play freely on the streets. I'm gonna let my kids do that without being afraid. Actually it's even safer now than it was in the 90s when I was growing up 😄 But fake life and food companies are everywhere, that's why we live in a village, grow our own food and try to connect with ourselves. Thank you for your channel, you've inspired me to create mine

This is spot on. As a new dad myself who is working everyday to increase my envelope of knee function, I plan on facilitating and instigating play with my little one as he gets older. Equally important I think is knowing the importance of rest and recovery. Too many times in my youth I would try to play through pain, just to stay out on the court or the field and get the reps when I should have sat out or modified my activity to emphasize recovery. Ben talks about ice and pain killers masking the pain while not addressing the underlying problem. I had the same experience in high school sports, in fact I remember a few kids who would take NSAIDs by the handful in the lockerroom before practice or games. It's no wonder we have an epidemic of youth sports injuries and surgeries. The culture of "shut up, take the pills, and don't be a p****" was easy to fall into back then. As a dad I want my kids to know it's okay to sit out a few reps, a few days, a few weeks... Listen to your body. Don't fall into the same trap that so many of us fell for in our youth. It's a valuable lesson in life to learn how to recover from injury and pain and knowing how to REALLY rest is crucial for both you physical and mental health. Ben has helped so many people on their journeys out of pain and I hope that his m message is getting through to the younger generations!

My brother and dad created a play ground for my brother’s 3 kids in his back yard. It has a rock climbing wall, monkey bars swings, ropes and so much more so if you have a backyard and playgrounds don’t feel safe just make something for your kids in the backyard so they can let there imagination go wild

I wish i had been more willing to be active with my kids early on. I was active, but i didn’t bring my kids along. I wish i could do it differently, but we can try to help others.

Didn't go to the park much. Stayed in to play Nintendo. My dad took us biking all the time though 🙂

To all new parents, I highly recommend investing in a Funphix or Quadro set. It's like scaffolding for kids, and allows you to build any structure you can imagine so your baby/toddler can develop physically at home when the weather's too bad to go out. You can change the design to make it more challenging and fun as your child grows and develops. Once old enough, your child can even get involved and help with designing and building whatever structure they come up with. It encourages both creativity and physical development, and it'll last for years (maybe forever — the parts are extremely durable)

Thankyou for making a difference Ben, and inspiring others to do so too💙

It’s hard when you’ve had back pain for over 10 years, but it definitely is important to make sure my girls are getting exercise and eating well. Need to make it a priority for them and myself.

counterpoint: stop trying to individualise everything as a response to regressive public policy

I left my full time job that left me drained for a serving job that is 30 hours max so I could have time to raise my daughter and help my wife grow her small business and that extra time I get with my daughter is so worth all the sacrifices, she’ll be able to walk soon and I can’t wait to run outside with her and show her how fun movement and nature is! Shout out to you Ben your philosophies are always spot on👊

Agree with everything except the fear mongering about the park. Crime in the US is statistically way down since the 90s

The Kneesovertoesguy
New Dads,
Your mission, should you choose
to accept…
This story starts out sad,
but may have a happy ending.
The sad part:
Your kids have less opportunity to PLAY than you did.
Schools have steadily been cutting gym class, McD’s and Chic-Fil-A have steadily been cutting playzones, and public parks have steadily been becoming less safe (I found a guy by himself sharpening a big knife in the KIDS playground recently. Cops took him away. But zero punishment.).
Meanwhile, fake life and fake food companies are marketing and selling more than ever to your kids.
But here’s the potentially happy ending…
Your mission, should you choose to accept, is to be MORE ACTIVE with your kids than previous generations had to!
In this story, you can’t count on other adults to make your kids happy and healthy.
You’re the superhero.
You’re the… SuperDad.
May you have the most fun of your life.
