Came here for more? We got you covered! Here’s some more info on what will change for sport pilots on October 22, 2025: • Sport pilots will have an expanded choice of aircraft to fly with a clean stall speed of up to 59 KCAS and up to four seats (with the ability to carry one passenger). • Sport pilots can fly at night with proper endorsements and a third-class medical or BasicMed. • Sport pilots can operate more capable aircraft with retractable landing gear and/or a manually controllable pitch propeller with proper endorsements. • There will be more sport pilot-eligible rental aircraft at local flight schools/FBOs.

@Caleb-qr6lo

I just want more competition in the general aviation industry. Aircraft prices should be half of what they are now

I fail to understand how this will have any appreciable effect on the cost of flying for a new pilot. Those main costs are the cost of buying or renting an aircraft, both which have skyrocketed over the last couple decades. When I was in flight training in 2001 I could rent a Cessna 152 for $47 an hour. Nowadays I see then going for $113 an hour. That is a 140% increase! The prices to buy are hardly any better, and have taken another giant jump in the last 5 years. It seems to me that this is just too little too late, just like the first Sport Pilot regulations.
