By the literal depiction of the question, the answer is no. It's like in Harry Potter. The wizards don't have to train to possess magic, they just become more powerful with training.

No, people have utilized the force before without any training. First one that comes to mind is Darth Vitiate, who snapped his stepfather's neck with the force long before they had any form of proper training. The not fun answer though is that really just boils down to the writer and what they think they can get away with without pissing too many people off.

I feel like its kinda like Avater, Ang (probably) had to train alot to learn air, got water nearly right away, took forever to learn earth, and got the basics of fire fairly easily. Then you have Kora who learns firs water and earth fairly easily, but just can't for the life of her learn air In the same way Ray gets mind trick easy, while it takes Cal till after he's knighted to get it. Darth vader never uses force lighting not because he doesn't know how, but because its just not something he can do, and Luke and Darth Vader use force choke with no training. All that being said an untrained force user should always be weaker then a trained one.

It's one thing having the force... It's another thing knowing how to harness it. Anakin was the chosen one and quite possibly one of the strongest living beings to have a connection with it... He still needed years of training to learn how to actually use it, especially in a combat scenario. Luke, another Skywalker also was exceptionally powerful and yet still after training struggle to retrieve his lightsaber, using the force and only did so after he cleared his mind and focused. Hence why Obi-Wan told him to go to Degobah, to receive further training from yoda. I think the reason why Rey in particular gets so much flak for using a Jedi mind trick with literal ease was mostly do to the fact that prior, she had no knowledge that the force even existed. And only awaken her inner potential, after touching Luke's saber and receiving a vision. The mind trick is treated as a basic force ability, but it still difficult to learn and requires training to become proficient with it. So her using it right off the back probably rubbed fans the wrong way, because it made the force and the abilities that comes with mastering it, look like a cake walk. When we know/seen how grueling of work a force user has to put in, to even become skilled, let alone master it. Imo i think that scene would've worked better if she had use TK to unlock her restraints, rather than mind trick the guard. Because it would show that she has potential to grow her strength in the force, without giving her a suto broken ability off the bat

Democracy about a soft science is funny. But the force is everywhere, in everything, binding the universe, be it akin the electromagnetic spectrum, or sentient bacterium. What has always been described as a necessity to manipulating the force was a sensitivity to it. Like just about every other thing in existence, your control over the force can be improved with training, but the concept of a prodigy or a savant in the force is not out of the question.

You def need training. Luke and ani were the best force users ever. Ani was able to push down the living embodiment of the force… TWO OF THEM. He legit made them kneel. It’s why Ray sucks as a character and why I refuse to accept her as cannon! She doesn’t even deserve legends

“I love Democracy.” So let’s have a vote!
Do you need training to use the Force?
(Be respectful in the comments…it’s just a space wizard franchise)
