The Thing is comfortably my favourite Carpenter movie, but if I’m on a desert island I probably want something to lift my energy and mood and Big Trouble in Little China is just so funny and cool.

I love Halloween… but Big Trouble in Little China would be better to rewatch on a desert island👌

The question isn’t “what’s the best John Carpenter movie”, it’s “what John Carpenter film could you watch 200 times?”

If I’m on an island by myself, I want something campy and goofy. I don’t want to fear that the birds are shapeshifters from space.

Rather than thinking about literally being on a desert island I'm taking this question as the best film. Or the film I'd like to watch for the 1st time again. That for me would be The Thing. Watching that for the 1st time with those effects was just amazing. I miss films having practical effects. CGI just has a fluff to it that makes it not really believable. The Thing was a golden standard for practical effects.

Gotta be Halloween. Watch it every October (and even sometimes a sequel or two)

I literally thought it meant which john carpenter movie takes place on a desert island and I was like "well I guess Antarctica counts," 😂

I saw the first one and thought "well obviously They Live", but then I saw the second one and I couldn't decide. Then the third and fourth. I don't think I can choose.
