I remember this as the work of a famous Austrian painter

That king was a dreamer. He spent all his life watching castles being built with no regard for his constituance. (At least he would not start a war). The castle is amazing. The bridge next to it too. Techniacally it was a masterpeace.

A painter from Austria who got rejected painted this. It was good, but it didn't fit into the art at the time.

It had an underground grotto where Ludwig would ride around on a swan boat while a light system cast rainbows onto the ceiling. Also opium. The king would smoke a lot of opium down there.

It also inspired the beautiful and totally not embarrassing Grandville, MI castle apartments

It was intended to be a playhouse of sorts. The castle was built for luxury and amenities, with no strategic or defensive elements. It is more of a mansion than a fortress.

The castle was also never finished by King Ludwig II before his death.

Screw Disney. Go see the real thing. You’ll be amazed. It is beautiful.

I went there once in the rain, it was surely certified to be a Disney Castle I can say from my personal experience.

We might call him mad but his foresight and style will be benefiting tourism for a long time 😄

I find it even more impressive how the mad King Ludwing built this in a tiny Caribbean nation of Tropico hundreds of years after his death

Fun Fact: The Neuschwanstein Castle, built in the late 19th century by King Ludwig II of Bavaria, is the same one that inspired the castle in Disney’s Sleeping Beauty. Even more fun? Despite its medieval look, Neuschwanstein Castle actually had modern features like central heating and flushing toilets. I don't know about you, but I'm impressed.
