Up and Atom

What are your best science podcast recommendations? Particularly about new breakthroughs and scientific discoveries. If they focus on physics and math even better. Thank you!

It's not maths or physics, but I'm a big fan of This Week in Virology for in depth discussion of viruses and related topics. The same host also produces other excellent podcasts on immunology, microbiology and several other topics in biology.

Star Talk covers a wide variety of topics with visiting experts. Stand Up Math, the Liuniverse, Sabine Hossenfelder's channel (it has changed names a few times), Dr Becky, It's Okay to be smart, SciShow (they have multiple channels), PBS, Steve Mould and two in French are ones I listen too regularly as well. Personally, I'd recommend Star Talk to anyone and Dr Becky explains how we know what we know, including great debates and how wrong ideas taught us lessons. The others can vary a lot but you might enjoy Stand Up Math too

Love Anton and Dr. Becky, I used to follow Sabine Hossenfelder and Brian Keating as well. Event Horizon with John Michael Godier often has fantastic guests as well.

Angela Collier, although it's heavy with opinions. More engineering oriented: garage 54, Kyle engineers, Adam Sandler, ...

Up and Atom works great as a podcast! I think Looking Glass Universe wasn't mentioned yet. But she sometimes uses illustrations which you'll have to imagine.

Probably "A Problem Squared". They do there own cutting edge research and publish it through the podcast. Fair they might not have made any breakthrough scientific discoveries just yet, but it is only a matter of time. 😂

For space stuff, I love Astronomy Cast with Fraser Cain, he also has a great youtube channel. There's also the Exploring Astrophysics podcast, I haven't listened to it much but it's mainly interviewing experts in their field about their work.

I like CleoAbram's Huge If True, Anton Petrov, Undecided by Matt Ferrell and some more. Veritasium is also fun to watch, though not exactly in the same category. Two minutes papers also worth mentioning if you like computer graphics and AI

Dr Becky’s Supermassive Podcast. It focuses on space though, not on physics as a whole.

As a podcast: Rachel Rayner's Australian Highlights. It's an interview format, and it's about the intersection of science, the arts, and being human and doing stuff.
