His gambit toward China is directly responsible for the situation we are in today with China. Oh, how much simpler things would be for us if the RoC held China's seat in the UN and the US didn't go on follow Nixon's lead by giving all our secrets away to China on how to build a successful country.

Yet again, a correction to a point of view too many people keep repeating: No, Nixon opening up China politically as an ally was not a mistake. It helped us win The Cold War. Continually opening up to them economically more and more decade after decade in the name of ideological economic and social liberalism was the mistake. Particularly after The Cold War was already won and over. Letting China into the World Trading Organization (WTO) under Bill Clinton and giving them special nation trading status, which they still have for some idiotic reason to this very day, were the mistakes. None of which happened under Nixon.
