Betamax King

Want $100? The first person to show up with a LOCAL piece of lost 80's or 90's Atlantic Canadian televised media gets $100 cash... The catch is this isn't your every day tapes, this is a special quest...
I'm talking about episodes of lost locally-produced series that have, for all intents and purposes, disappeared - Shantytown, ATV's Funtime, CBC's Bixby and Me, etc.
That's right... I'm willing to pay you money to help me find and preserve local television rarities...
Now, off you go to the basements, attics, store rooms, "archive rooms", wherever those tapes are hiding, go un-hide them. You find however many you can, I give you $100 for your dedication!

Share this! Let's find that treasure.

Hopefully someone out there does have some of this stuff. I remember generally, we would tape a show because we weren’t home to watch it, then we’d watch it later, and just tape over it. Hopefully there are some people out there who thought they taped over something, but now some 30 to 40 years later realize they didn’t 😃 I can’t believe those ASN kids reporter segments aren’t on YouTube. Those were on almost every day during the afterschool cartoons

I love this idea! I’m not much help as a Canadian expat in Japan, but stranger things have happened. I can keep an eye out for VHS tapes at the thrift stores and see what comes up. I once saw an Ontario NDP t-shirt on the racks at Book-Off. I didn’t buy it, but would love to know the story of how it got there.

My school has some episodes of some local Newfoundland shows on VHS, a really popular old one that was exclusive to us on cbc years back. Some literal UNDOCUMENTED episodes of this show. Forget it’s name but it was popular here in the late 50’s and all through the 60’s and maybe the 70’s. It had lots of reruns but it’s mostly lost online last time I went looking for it 8 years ago. If I can get the tapes off them I’ll document them. The show is considered a piece of early Newfoundland television history. I really DON’T remember the name through, tales from something bay? Or cove? Or island? Like I’m trying so hard to remember but I can’t. Just know the vast majority of the show is lost.
