I'm really curious what the arguments for no are 😂

@adrianaslund8605

Yeah actually. He seems to not mind the label either. He sees it as being a survivor. He's probably a sociopath.

In a way he's the most honest character in the whole game. He doesn't pretend to be a noble thief like Dutch, an honourable man trapped by circumstances like Arthur, a heterosexual man like Bill or to really care about his partner like John. Micah is a man who really embraces the era and his place within it.

There’s some cognitive dissonance that people need to address. Micah was one of the villains, but pure evil? He was just performing his occupation as a bandit/outlaw. Arthur and friends were notably that too. Besides strawberry (which Arthur participated in) the gang is honestly as bad as Micah when it comes to murder and thieving. Dutch blows that girls brains out on the ferry, Arthur beats a sickly old man within an inch of his life. Hosea despite his grandfather vibes was always ready to draw on someone in the camp. They’re not good people, they’re just your people.. and that creates blatant double standards.

If Naughty Dog owned Red Dead, then in the third game we'd have to watch Micah’s backstory where he’s feeding dogs, and they’d try to make us justify him killing Arthur 🤣🤣

Micah is evil, but he's not PURE evil. Pure evil characters do evil acts for no other reason than for the love of the game. A popular example is Jack Horner from Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. Jack is wealthy, powerful, came from a good upbringing - and yet he still does evil acts purely because he wants to, because it brings him joy in doing them. Micah doesn't do his evil deeds because he feels like it, or because it amuses him. He gets amusement out of some of it, sure, but ultimately he does it because he's self-centered on being rich and surviving to their extremes. He kills people not because it's fun for him, but because they wronged him, or he wants to survive at all costs. He betrayed the group to the Pinkertons not because he'd find it funny, but because they offered him protection if he became a turncoat. He manipulates Dutch against us not because he enjoys the drama, but because him being in charge maximises the chances of him coming out on top. He's a despicable character. He does awful things. He's a lot more complex than people give him credit for. And he's definitely an evil character. But pure evil? No.

There are implications that Micah had a very bad childhood which would have warped his perception of right and wrong. In my opinion, Micah had a small potential for redemption, but that potential was silenced by the irrational need for survival at any cost, including honor and loyalty.

Micah is a bad person, but “pure evil” is kind of a strong term. The gang was already falling apart, Micah just sped it up. I don’t think he’s a good person, but he’s not QUITE pure evil.

@Polata143

Yes! And that's what makes him great! Micah has no illusion of "honor" or being a "good outlaw." Micah is a outlaw. Through and through.

He was certainly ruthless, but had moments where he showed genuine empathy/sympathy. If you manage to kill Baylock, for example, he’s actually distraught and if you walk passed him with a hay bale, he tells you to make sure Baylock gets some. Evil, yes, but wouldn’t say pure evil.

Micah is that type of pure evil that you just love to hate Even just based on what most people think of, like massacring Strawberry, manipulating dutch, racism, working with the pinkertons for selfish reasonings not for any moral reasons, terrorizing a grieving widow, trying to kill a little girl, etc. Makes him easy to hate, But even Arthur has done awful things like countless acts of murder, strong-arming loaners for way more than the money's worth, beating a man with a deadly illness to near death causing his death later, (potentially) letting an innocent man fall to his death, etc. But at least he has good deeds to compare. With Micah the evil just piles on, and with the implications it's even worse, like the fact he may have killed cain, potentially being a rapist and murderer even before joining the gang, being overall a creep to the women in the gang,

@JacobCunningham-ml7gg

Is he really pure evil tho? Like I know Arthur is the playable character and Micha is a dick, but at the end of the day is there REALLY any difference? Sure we have the moral high ground, compared to Micha, but all the Lawmen we Gun down would probably disagree. Tldr; pure evil is hard to quantify, and if we did like half the gang would fall under that umbrella.

Im probably one of the few people that likes Micah. Rockstars best protagonist ever down to his sense of humor his mentality his dual draw is insanely fast a very good gunmen. I understand him in a sense, if you go on a stagecoach robbery with him you get a peak inside the mind of Micah he makes a good point in the Girls being dead weight and was technically right about john turning on the gang knowing he has a family and all. Micah really thought things out, he was patient always willing to play the long game, wanted to have a small gang full of dumb loyal sharp shooters. Thats why he killed Arthur, he was one of the few who saw past Micah. Micah was nicely written down to the engravings on his gun.He was a Rat, a survivor, thats why him and dutch got along so well, Micah was the devil on Dutches shoulder.

HE IS A SURVIVOR

@forrestsytsma5861

Unfortunately yes. My only issue with the entire game is I wish they humanized Micah a little more. When Dutch starts rambling about a possible rat its pretty damn clear who everyone assumed it was. And we were right! Micah was a piece of garbage and a liability to the rest of the group. Of course he's also a rat. Thus there was very little surprise when its later revealed.
