This is total speculation though. You dont know what happened. Juan at Blancolirio said the design of the Bell 206 is not very susceptible to Mast bumping and it's unlikely due to that design.

That's not what happened. First, The helicopter in question had 2 blades, not 4. And second, based on everything I've seen I can't rule out a catastrophic gearbox failure. Most everything else, can mostly be ruled out. There was no mast failure. The rotors, mast and most of the transmission are clearly visible in the video, spinning into the river a few seconds after the inverted fuselage impacted. The blades and mast appear intact. When the planetary gear seized up in the gearbox (transmission), it stopped both the tail rotor shaft and the rotors at the same time. Inertia from both components ripped them from the fuselage instantly. Nobody stood a chance.

No. The helicopter had a semi-rigid rotor system. It was not mast bump that caused the tail to sever. It was catastrophic transmission failure and the entire rotor separated with the transmission attached.

It’s nice as the animation was made. It was not accurate as other experts have said. If you zoom in on the video, you can see the rotors were still attached to the transmission which means, and it came cleanly off the helicopter and blades were not damaged, so it was not a mast bump. And after the the blades and transmission separated, the helicopter spun, and it was a centrifugal force that sheered the tail boom off.

@edoedo8686

Wouldn't the blades be damaged or fractured after striking the tail?

How did I know that AiTelly was going to make a video about it within the hour. I kept checking his channel; this guy is dedicated . Thanks for the visuals and at the same time, my condolences to the families of those were affected.

I prey every night that Ai Telly isn’t behind these horrific events…

@Machlooper

I personally don’t think it was mast bumping. Firstly the blades were intact and secondly not only were they intact but the whole gearbox detached along with them. ‘Possibly’ a catastrophic failure of the mounts which if not the entire cause then as a result of another major failure.

The purpose of the channel is not reporting. The purpose of this channel, apparently, is to make animations.
