Flammable Maths

Serious Question: I would love to get involved in university work again, so if someone of you is currently attending university and knows if a prof needs help grading homework next semester please let me know!

I would like a slow start again, so simple linear algebra or analysis for biologists, CS students, etc. would be great.

Obviously I'm from Germany, so only remote grading would work, but I guess that's not a problem anymore since the 'Rona happened.

Thanks in advance!!!

@franciscoreyes7370

In the states, you would need to be a math grad student and have a TAship to get paid for grading at the college level.

University of Greifswald, they are always looking for tutors/homework correcting. I've got Mails asking for help with Linear Algebra and Numerics. Although for LA it's a joint position, so it's also the tutoring in person. Not sure whether they hire externs though, it's usually higher semester students

I am currently tutoring "crystalline étale cohomology theories on grothendieck topoi". It's pretty basic stuff, I can send you some of the homework if you want

I'm studying computer science at TU Darmstadt. Our math homework is graded by tutors (mostly other students from higher semesters or math students), so it's really hit or miss. It's also pretty heavy-duty math, so I don't think this is what you're looking for unfortunately (correct me if I'm wrong) ^^'

I'm at Durham, I'm sure you could find some work here. They are cutting professors from first year tutorials and marking due to being overworked. The students are starting to fill in the duties for these jobs instead. I also have it on good authority that a similar thing is happening in Bristol so try them as well.

I think it will be a good idea given there is a consistent need for more support to improve math teaching in college. And hopefully not only grading but tutoring because I suppose it provides the largest platform for your expertise.

@MathIguess

I mean, I'm studying again and while I might be able to hook you up with private clients to tutor, I'm not sure I could get the university to formally hire you in any capacity. Especially since they hired me literally this month lol. Would that interest you? And should I ask around to find out whether they'd wanna hire you?

Unfortunately my uni mostly does automated grading. I can talk to a few professors though, see if one of them is down.
