The main issue with season 4 is that it bungled many if its character arcs and did not give us satisfying confrontations that were being built up to since the end of season 3. For instance, from the moment Soren abandoned the army in Season 3, we were hoping for a confrontation between him and his father (we even had a fake out for this in the Season 3 finale). When Soren is captured in this season, we are led to believe that we’ll have some character drama between him and Viren — which would be even more interesting now that Viren’s character has pivoted in an interesting direction. However, in a truly bizarre oversight on the part of the writers, we cut away from Soren the moment he sees his father is still alive, and never get the drama we were promised. The writers also shy away from character drama between Claudia and Ezran & Callum (who, remember, did not interact at all in the season 3 climax). Claudia marches into the same room as the protagonists, and we think “alright, time for some character conflict”, but she just puts everyone to sleep before that can happen. Then there’s the problem with Callum’s “arc”, which involves him and other characters worrying about him “going down a dark path”. Trouble is, we are given NO evidence that he is regressing as a character (and no, being moderately angry at your girlfriend for ditching you for two years does not count). True, he once used dark magic… back in season TWO, but that was resolved a couple episodes later and he has never, ever, displayed a hint of being tempted by it again, so what exactly are we supposed to be worried about? We even saw his eyes go black in the trailer and thought that he might indeed use dark magic again, but no, that was just him being possessed by Aaravos. There were other things I didn’t like much either. I didn’t care for Viren’s sudden pivot at the end, and I found Terry to be a little boring and out of place — but these are more personal complaints. I did really like Viren and Claudia for most of the season, and I liked the design and personality of Rex Igneous. Overall, however, this was very underwhelming.

I love everything we learned with season four- the genuine struggle to overcome the bad history between humans and Xadia while creating new tensions- but it’s so short and it will probably be so long before the next season comes out. And I did not particularly appreciate what was going on between Rayla and Callum in those two years in between. Like, what was she doing for two whole years?? Jumping through the forest looking for Viren behind rocks??

[spoilers to season 4 mentioned here] I think my problem with this season is that it heavily focuses on setting up situations for later seasons, leaving the actual plot itself weak and the characters underdeveloped. A lot of the episodes felt poorly written and could've been cut down to fit narratives I wished we would have gotten / they keep the 9 episode length which doesn't feel right for a show returning after 2 years. For example [spoiler ahead] when Claudia threatens Rayla with her parents as she had turned them into coins, it comes out of left field. There's no context as to why Claudia would have her parents like that. What I wished we could've seen was Claudia doing whatever she needed to get all the items to bring her father back from the dead. This could've furthered (and re-introduce) the idea of dark magic and shown how she had grown rather than relying on Viren to tell us and introduce why she had Rayla's parents in coins (i.e they were preventing her from getting an item she needed). Another issue I find is that Ezran doesn't still feel like a King. With the threat of Aaravos and Viren being alive, going with Callum and Rayla doesn't feel right to his character growth. Once again, I feel like a good plot point they could have furthered was how Ezran was changing the kingdom through his preparing for Aaravos and maybe showing him reaching out to the Sun Elves which then could've tied them more to the plot. The whole sun elves plot also feels misplaced with the brother just being introduced and not connected to the threat (though it's obvious they are setting up to become a threat). By including this plot point, we could have seen that outsiders' perspectives play into their story. Callum and Rayla both feel out of character and what I wished we saw was Callum going on this journey alone with Soren and still dealing with his emotions with Rayla being introduced at the end because she had followed Claudia. Soren was great though. He had his Hiccup moment and I am here for it. I also really liked the interaction between his family this season (though I wish they gave Soren more time to process what had happened rather than him instantly returning to the happy version of himself because that could have also set up a plot point for next season that would have been interesting) In general, it feels like there was potential and it just didn't translate through. While we see some of them cope with the past and the events that occurred within the two years, it doesn't feel like it ever gets fully realized. We don't see Callum's skills fully developed yet and we don't really dive more into his feelings about Aaravos. We don't really see Ezran lead more outside of his conenction with Zim. The Sun Elves feel forced at this point (even though I love the wedding story) and we don't really need Rayla for this season to exist which is sad considering she was a lead. The best scene truly was when Aaravos took over Callum's body because there was an actual threat now. Sorry for this long rant. I just have a lot of thoughts

It's been three years, of course it wouldn't meet everyone's expectations.

I'd Give 3.5 Out 5 Stars For Season 4. It's Not That Bad But It Wasn't Great. I Love Seeing The Dragang Together Again What Didn't Like Was The Fart Jokes In The Early Episodes.

I wouldn't say that it sucks I would just say that it left a lot to be desired. I didn't mind the Lore dump too much but I was bothered by the lack of character growth and interactions for our main cast. Plus a lot of the interactions we did get the dialogue seemed to be very forced or a bit unnatural.

The Dragon Prince has always had stupid humour but knew when to use it effectively, it just seems wildly misplaced this season. Also alot of big moments happen early in the season so i felt it just kind of petered out alot of the bigger character moments being saved for the next season. Hell we didn't really have a scene with Soren and Viren, Claudia can be sweet and innocent then just be heartless, it balanced well when she was conflicted but it seems off now. Overall its not awful i just thought the time jump would have led to a more mature slightly darker show but it seems not. I think that season 3 was just such a good conculsion that hopefully it will build up to that greatness in season 5. 6/10 (also calling that gem necklace Claudia stole from the dragon treasure room is gonna save her life at some point)
