@ninavandenham

My main sensory ick is loud sounds made by other people—like sneezing, chewing, or even noises from cleaning the dishwasher for example. I feel bad about it because these are such natural, human things that people can't really help.

Heat and anything associated with it, like brightness, sweating, stickiness, not being able to breathe properly, etc

Sharp, unexpected loud noises...a dropped plate, a dog barking...

I have many, but one that is actually dangerous is headlights. They're so bright that I can't see the road properly when there's oncoming traffic. I think it's mainly because modern LED headlights are much brighter than incandescent ones.

More than one piece of music playing at the same time. It does weird things to my brain that I can't even describe.

The feeling and sound of polystyrene foam. It's the thing that makes me recoil the most. The feeling of cornflour is up there as well.

For a little positivity break, my favorite sensory experiences are warm drinks and touching flour

People tapping my shoulder or giving me a ā€friendly punch ā€ in the arm. Im mostly okay with people softly, affectionately touching me like hugs, playing with my hair putting their head on my shoulder or in my lap, but there is something about the more rough/rapid/abrasive touching that makes me feel ā€unevenā€ iykwim. Makes me wanna tap them back twice as hard lmao. A boy once did that to me on a date and it gave me the ick so bad, i was sooo irritated for no reason all day and lost all interest

Cotton buds. The feeling of the fibres scraping against eachother. I can handle them fine but I cringe if I have to squeeze them. Sends a shiver down my spine like nails on a chalkboard.

There's a specific texture on ceramics that's kinda rough and I absolutely HATE that texture. My family has dubbed it "that texture".

it’s massages of any kind, multiple conversations happening around me at once and wearing a coat without long sleeves underneath (so the lining touches my skin) for me.
