Return to the 1790's or something similar to the dollar store/thrift store trips you have done- basically use cheap/minimal gear 3/5 items etc and do an overnighter

It would be really cool to see a video tracing and detailing some of the “evolution of the hobo” following a timeline with your favorite information sources or firsthand accounts. It’d be fascinating to see an overview of how the hobo culture adapted over the decades both in response to the outside world and their own cultural shifts.
