I get to take my time. Not in a big hurry to rush to my next job like most contractors (nothing wrong with that, just incentivized to cut corners). Nobody cares about my home more than I do

The cost is my primary motivation, and the challenge is second. Third is basically back to reason 1. I know a few good contractors but attention to detail costs.

I can do it myself SO much cheaper! And my wife and I can change/modify details on the fly as we see fit.

All 3. I am confident in my waterproofing skills, and am not confident in contractors’ attention to that detail. I’m okay at tiling, my husband is good at plumbing, and we hire an electrician. In the end, we know what’s underneath the cosmetics and are confident in the quality.
