“Wait… this castle isn’t actually medieval?” 🏰🤯 Since we posted this video, many people have messaged us in disbelief: how could this castle — and the hamlet around it — not be centuries old?📍Near Guédelon, France, a group of passionate builders began constructing a real castle from scratch using only medieval tools and techniques. No cranes. No electricity. Just muscle, stone, and time. Started in 1997 by two brothers who’d restored a chateau they bought for a few francs, Guédelon Castle is now a living archaeology site: its great tower rises 15 meters high, the chapel is complete with vaulted ceilings, and even the ovens and cisterns are medieval-authentic. It's also a testimony of what can be done with planning and determination. You won't believe that, what you see in this video, didn't actually exist before 1997. We hope you enjoy this repost as much as we did.

A very enjoyable place to visit. The only problem is that it's not accessible by public transport. Which leads me to take my car, which leads me to fill up my car with French wines. Ah well, I guess I'll have to make room in the cellar for another road trip soon.

I've seen a couple of episodes from the building of this castle..including the Masons Medieval man powered wheel crane. Castle Coch in S. Wales is a miniature fairytale castle rebuild by the Lord of Cardiff in Victorian times as hunting lodge and gift for his wife... With Arts and crafts romantic decorations it was rebuilt on the original Medieval foundations.. however the lady wasn't impressed and only stayed once for a night never to return .. It sits within 20-30miles of the complete contrast that is the Giant battle shattered towers, multiple wall curtain walls and vast moat of Caerphilly Castle. Part of Edwards chain of Concentric Castles designed to Control the Welsh. They were the Aircraft carrier battle groups of the centuarys till the arrival of large siege guns . Your kids would love both....

Interesting Vajdahunyad Castle in Hungary was originally made of cardboard and later built of stone also and looks older than it actually is too.
