Not a theory but I've really never seen the story as one that is heading to Griffith never being defeated. A huge part of the story anchors on Guts getting over Griffith and being grateful for what he still has, casca and his new friends. How ever grim it is or the direction the story has taken I still believe it ends in Griffiths being vanquished albeit I am not sure how. I am certain Guts will not die. He and casca will live happily ever. I'm very certain Griffiths will be defeated because miura made it so that Griffiths actions will go to affect the world in general beyond just Guts who must get over him in creating fantasia. And the god hand too have greater motives that must be stopped. These cannot succeed surely or at least not entirely so. This I am certain Griffiths will be defeated but how I cannot say. But the wild card would be that it would involve Guts behelit
