I'm a big fan of the Home Performance YouTube channel. Great info on balancing a tight envelope and a healthy home. Corbett and Grace are very knowledgeable!

Talk to the folk at Carbon Coop in Manchester. They specialise in retrofit projects. https://carbon.coop/contact/ You might also want to jump onto the Community Energy England webinar this afternoon that's on retrofitting terrace house streets https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/net-zero-terrace-streets-nzts-update-webinar-tickets-1024764597497 Feel free to ask me for our upgrades to our 1947 council house if you want any case studies.

I have retrofitted insulation to my 1938 end terrace house and massively reduced the cost of heating. We are still on a gas boiler but will change in the next 5 years to a heat pump. I specified all the new radiators to work on 35 degrees water temperature. I run an MG5 as a Taxi and recharge every night. My heating and electric costs me £81 per month, including recharging the EV and I am in credit with Octopus energy! My EV is doing around 45000 miles a year charging at home. I used insulated plasterboard on all the outside walls and insulated my loft. All the work (except the plastering was done by myself and my partner. we are both in our mid / late 60's. We have copious photos and even videos. I know this is not exactly what you are asking for, but if we can do this, so can most other people. We had no building experience before starting the work. However, with Covid, we had Jo options but to do the work ourselves.

There are some very good companies in Cornwall that deal with older granite and cob buildings right through to new builds that need ASHP and sola installations. Naked solar is a really good company to look at.

Hi. Graham Durrant is the leading expert in hempcrete and regularly does retrofits. We recently did a couple with him, in Derbyshire on some 300+ year old buildings. We have an interview with him which also shows the process, on our channel.

Michael Mobbs (from Sydney) retrofitted his house and wrote a book about it (Sustainable House). He also runs tours of his home. He might be a good spokesperson. Or, if he still takes an interest, he might be able to recommend someone. David Pearson is an architect who wrote 'The Natural House Book'. As an architect of solar passive designs, he might know someone currently undertaking a renovation.

My house was built in 2010 with a gas combi, no space for a tank for the heat pump, and when I tried to discuss it twice with Octopus they weren't interested. The house is well insulated and I want rid of gas, maybe you could look at retrofitting of this type of property too (a range of property ages), I would love a solution as I'm sure many others would too. 🙂

Can the everything electric team also take a look at lobbying government for new build as it looks as though the house builders are pushing back furiously on having to have solar panels on new builds https://www.hbf.co.uk/documents/13574/HBF_-_FHS_and_Building_Standards_Consultation_response_27-03-24_Final.pdf

Afternoon! We are looking to do an episode on retrofitting existing housing stock to increase their energy efficiency. Can anyone recommend a good spokesperson who has knowledge in this area and/or any interesting retrofitting projects. Thank you in advance!
