The rear sight windage/elevation adjustments made for the A2 are reason enough for me to say it definitely beats out the A1. Get one of each. Santa Claus is getting an H&R M16A1 for my son this year. We're lucky that we can have all of them.

I am kinda partial to the A2 as that is what I used when I was in the army, but I do like the simpler sights on the A1/retro carbines.

i would probably do like magpul rifle length handguard with a magpul fixed carbine stock and grip with FSB for like a modernized setup

it's a 20" AR... any of them are great. I like the A1 best, but I used an A4 in the Air Force and don't mind it. I do like the A2, but I like it less than the 1 and 4
