vir das is probably the only who consistently makes me laugh and possibly the only one who doesnt leave me with a sour taste in my mouth

Look, as much as I appreciate the guys trying to rep and put on for us on the stand up comedy scene/culture, its tiring to hear the same tropes and stereotypical jokes that aren't even funny and become predictable at one point, like engineer/doctor/motel owner, strict parents and the accent, etc.

indian comics are really good only when you don't watch the ones based in america

there are so many amazing indian comics based in india, but the american indian/nri comics make very basic stereotypical jokes, im not a fan of them. suggestions for indian comics: kenny sebastian, kanan gill, urooj ashfaq (popular ones), mohd suhel, swati sachdeva, chirag panchwani (smaller but amazing too). i also really like a lot of the game show type comedy shows in the indian comedy scene like "relationshit advice" by raunaq rajani, "madhur model" by madhur virli, "first move" by nirmal pillai and abhishek kumar. indian stand up comics based in india are doing pretty great lately!

I actually went to an Aziz Ansari show a year ago and he was definitely guilty of making jokes about his white wife. I think it’s interesting that minorities in comedy spaces typically revolve jokes around their identity, but sometimes they do get overdone and tired. Im definitely interested in your perspective

@Jerome..

I like Indian comedians for one, they talk about what its like to be brown, stereotypes, up bringing and issues. The second reason being its a niche audience so they can focus on just making Desi related content while also talking about other topics

Yeah no, the core Indian standup comedy scene is lot better than the stereotypical stuff NRI comedians push

I absolutely love Kanan Gill. There is some incredible Punjabi comedy there. Vir Das is also quite good but maybe he's kind of a gimme? Is he famous outside of India?

@nizz05

personally, i do tend to gravitate more towards political comedy so makes sense why i like Hasan Minhaj but other than him, not a whole lot of brown comedians prominent in North America that don't make me feel like they're just falling into the same, absolutely TIRED tropes.
