For years, I had dreamt of Zanskar - a land that seemed so close, yet always out of reach. The roads were either closed or unfinished, and somehow, the timing was never right.
But this year, everything aligned. The road was ready. So was I.
We set out into the heart of Zanskar, and it felt like stepping into another world - raw, untouched, and vast. One of the most surreal experiences was camping at Gombo Ronjan, right beneath the towering, blade-like mountain that cuts the sky in half. The sunset painted the valley in strokes of orange and pink, and for the first time in a long time, silence spoke louder than words.
For two days, we lived under open skies, with nothing but the mountains and moonlight for company. Time slowed down.
But the highlight of the journey was visiting Phuktal Monastery - a 2,500-year-old marvel carved into a cliff, seemingly floating above the valley. Reaching it felt like walking into a dream.
The monks welcomed us with quiet smiles, and the prayer halls echoed with chants that felt ancient and eternal.
Zanskar wasn't just a place. It was a feeling - of stillness, of awe, of finally arriving where I was always meant to be.
