Okay, so here’s what happened. I was in Kroger in 1996. My son was an infant. My habit was to wear a flap nursing tshirt (covers everything) and he was in a sling (covers the baby and keeps folx from touching them, highly recommend). I’d nurse one side and switch halfway through. I think this woman (and I use that term loosely) had been following me through the store because she ambused me in the baby aisle which was the next to last aisle and gets in my face and screeches (no really, she sounded like an owl with allergies)
THAT’S UNCHRISTIAN!!
I blinked. I blinked again and then I told her as blandly as possible
You do know Jesus was a breastfed baby.
She walked away and then I felt a hand on my elbow. I died inside. But then I turned around and a little old lady said
Honey? You ignore her and keep on doing what you’re doing. That’s what God intended them for.
I went home and made this. Yes, I did deliberately look for a Mary nursing a toddler Christ. No, not everyone can breadfeed. Some folx can’t even manage a drop due to medical circumstances. What matters is that baby is loved and fed. Be kind to yourself.
Bright Blessings
