Airports across India are witnessing angry outbursts and long queues as IndiGo struggles with operational disruptions, leading to 300+ cancellations in 48 hours and hundreds of delayed flights. Hyderabad and Bengaluru are among the worst-hit, with dozens of cancellations reported.

The airline cites “unforeseen operational challenges” including tech glitches, winter schedule changes, weather, and congestion — but the main factor is the DGCA’s new crew-rest regulations. Implemented in January 2024, these rules extend weekly rest for pilots, reduce night duties, and cap maximum duty hours. Many crew members suddenly became unavailable under these new norms, creating roster chaos.

IndiGo’s massive scale (2,200+ flights/day) and reliance on high-frequency overnight operations amplified the impact. Pilot bodies allege poor planning and lean staffing strategies worsened the disruption.

Passengers are advised to check flight status regularly, arrive early, carry essentials, and opt for flexible/refundable tickets. The airline says operations will normalize within 48 hours as teams work around the clock to stabilize schedules.
