2001 is a visual masterpiece. The special effects in that movie were so ahead of their time they hold up amazingly well today.

I saw "2001" in 1968, in Cinerama, and was in total awe. I still am.

A Clockwork Orange is not just extremely unique but a film that really resonated with me, being a highschool drop out and all

I prefer both Barry Lyndon & Dr. Strangelove over Full Metal Jacket. That being said, all of the above are masterpieces.

2001 will always hold a special place in my heart. I can't say anything negative about any of those other films, but I feel 2001 pushed so many visual, and technical boundaries it has to be his best.

FMJ by far, one of the best war movies ever made.

To the people who didn’t watch Full Metal Jacket: “WHAT IS YOUR MAJOR MALFUNCTION, BROTHER? DIDN’T MOMMY AND DADDY TEACH YOU HOW TO APPRECIATE A FILM WHEN YOU WERE A CHILD?”

Weird to not have Dr Strangelove which may be his best film not on the list. The Killing (1956) is also excellent. Out of these choices I went with A Clockwork Orange.

To me 2001 bc he achieved an amazing feat imo. A movie he was able to depict about the transcendent and somehow convey it in film. It literally feels like ur experiencing a different world once he goes in to the Stargate scene and beyond.

The verbal intensity and genuine unadultered masculinity of the opening scene in FMJ does the appeal so much it won the poll.

SK made 13 feature films. Fear and Desire, Killer's Kiss, The Killing, Paths of Glory, Spartacus, Lolita, Dr. Strangelove, Barry Lyndon and Eyes Wide Shut didn't make your list which is weird. Dr. Strangelove is my favorite but 2001 is one of the most original, fantastic films ever made.

Eyes wide shut! The psychological breakdown of the naive good boy in the face of sexuality, ego death, physical death, and social power, the way that grappling with all those is conveyed in unforgettable imagery. He thought he’d get into the upper class if he did everything right, only to find out the real upper class does everything he thought was wrong. As a psychological story I think it’s his most complete story

Barry Lyndon is my favorite. The list also neglects Dr. Strangerlove and Lolita, sadly.

In my mind, at least, 2001 is not only Kubrick's best, it's the greatest film in history. I know that Citizen Kane is "more important" because of the changes it made to camera technique and the cinematic language in general, but I consider 2001 to be the absolute pinnacle of film. 2001 isn't my all time favorite movie (that would be Jaws), but it's among my favorites, and I honestly believe it to be the best movie ever. Just my 2 cents.

I gotta rewatch a lot of his films but for now the shining takes it away, by far the most terrifying film ive ever seen (and all the symbolism, themes and theories just make it timeless)
