To be honest, I wouldn't put it past EA...

@Servesta

Well, this is what will happen to all online only games in the future.

@thisisnotachannel

This is what will eventually happen as a result of a certain demographic embracing pay to win, and digital only store fronts. LONG LIVE PHYSICAL MEDIA!

@philtkaswahl2124

EA would find a way to make the disk unusable and make you pay for the "service" of doing so.

@orderofmagnitude-TPATP

Remember when they made cool games like road rash with passion as opposed to profit?

I wonder if anything could possibly ever happen that would force AAA game companies to start making games that are physical, don’t require an online connection, have a quality single player experience and are fully finished at launch without the need to any patches and/or DLCs/expansions (and not being pay to win) like most major games were (at least attempted at) roughly pre-2010s or so. It’s a pipe dream I know, but I wonder what in theory could cause it. Another major video game crash perhaps?

@ApexZer0

Honestly I'm surprised they supported the game for 6 YEARS

Ea didn't want you to buy used games that says more than enough

@SteveBrandon

At least FIFA 17 fans got well over half a decade of online service. I bought a used copy of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13 for XBox 360 from a thrift store/charity shop around 2015 or 2016 and, while I could still play the base game, a lot of the golf courses could only be unlocked via the online servers, which had already been shut down by EA after less than 3 years.

EA Sports games are like calendars. Once one year goes by, everyone looks forward to the next, and it repeats!

@scottydu81

Who the hell plays these damned games? There is literally no value to them

@melody3741

Keep in mind any game you cant play offline you will lose access to. You aren’t buying the game just licensing it for a few years.

@solidfkingsnake

Im surprised the 17 servers were up that long to be honest.

@paljones8631

You can still play FIFA 17, it is just called FIFA 23 now.😄

@LordmonkeyTRM

If you read section 2.5 in the EULA you give express permission for EA to come round your house, enter it regardless and destroy any media in a manner they see fit...

@ProfaneGod

Tbh EA doesn't need to snap your disc they just need to make an update that disables the main menu or the entire game itself or even just fill it with ads every 30 secs.

@itay6262

what is so iconic about a yearly money grabber?

@aetheralmeowstic2392

Imagine if the EU made it illegal for any game that costs more than $1.99 to have ads in it

@cathynekonin

They'll be even worse than the Nintendo Ninjas...

@schindlerteejay94

All Triple A games are like Calendars, especially CoD and this. Even bloody 2K Wrestling a game barely anyone plays for more than a month gets yearly updates.

@BigWheel.

Imagine paying 60-80 dollars for something so that in 7 years it becomes useless.
