Forgiveness doesn’t necessarily mean the offender is exempt from consequences.

Praying the assassin repents and apologizes before his execution. Thanks foe the reminder. "LORD, Forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors..."

Forgiveness when those who are attacking will not even acknowledge their wrong? How will that work?

I forgive him. Still want him to face the death penalty. A just society cannot use forgiveness to avoid justice.

John Paul II was shot, so he could forgive his aggressor. We don't have the same right to forgive on behalf of someone else.

Never forget that forgiveness and reconciliation are two different things. Christians are called to forgive, but sometimes reconciliation is not an option and could even be destructive in certain circumstances.

All of this is separate from the duty we owe to society at large, and specifically those around us, to permanently rid the earth of those who murder. We can even feel compassion for this person, but there is a greater duty to do justice, not just for Charlie, but for those would-be Charlies in the future.

You cant reason with some but God can move them as no person can. The grace we give isn't because they asked or deserve it any more than we do. We offer it so Jesus can use it to change them. God loved us when we were yet sinners, too

Justice must come to murderers. In this case, the shooter didn’t kill the Pope.

The threat is more than from implacable fanaticism. There is an entire media industry and half of Congress persuading feral children to hunt us down.

That is the pope it’s impossible to forgive yet because they are still doing the same things and haven’t shown any signs of contrition nor any evidence that they have done anything to to stop the violence

He was the only Pope I know growing up. A truly compassionate man.

We should forgive our enemies their actions and hatreds, but it cannot stop us from doing what is necessary to protect the innocent. We must ask forgiveness for what we do to this end and leave eternal judgement to the Lord.

Dad Saves America
Here's a message we all need right now.
"On Wednesday, May 13, 1981, Mehmet Ali Agca pulled a gun and shot Pope John Paul II during a procession in St. Peter’s Square, Vatican City, Italy. Though critically wounded, the Pope survived four gunshot wounds to his abdomen. Following the shooting, Pope John Paul II asked people to “pray for my brother…whom I have sincerely forgiven”. In 1983, Pope John Paul II and Agca met and spoke privately at the prison where Agca was being held.
The Pope brought the photographer and the cameramen because he wanted the image in that cell to be shown around a world filled with unforgiving hatreds, with hostile superpowers, and smaller, implacable fanaticism."
