David Otunga on the potential for Nexus in WWE

The concept of the Nexus was brilliant: a bunch of young talent frustrated with their reality show treatment led by the true superstar of the group, who instead of taking the selfish road and only looking out for only himself, united this group to take revenge on the machine that tried to hold them down. Yeah, not everyone was a superstar, but don’t forget that in addition to Wade Barrett, this group also had Daniel Bryan and the eventual Bray Wyatt in it at one time. If handled correctly, the Nexus could have been something special. The black and yellow, the N symbol, the arm bands… they were building a great faction & just ruined it to give Cena another Superman spot that he really didn’t need.

@SD_Stef

Barrett was the lone standout of the group. Them dropping the ball with him was the biggest misstep in the whole nexus ordeal

@HakimIshak

I totally forgot about Michael Tarver being a Nexus member.

@nathueil1

Dark State needs to recognize Michael Tarver.

The problem with The Nexus was only Wade Barrett stood out in the group. There were too many members and none of them stood out.

Yeah, the Shield run was kinda crazy. Multiple times people thought, oh they are gonna lose this match. Not because it was the right time, but because we knew how WWE treated and ruined promising Heel teams/stables. But the Shield never lost. It was wild. They were booked near perfect.

It would’ve been cool to see how far they would’ve went with it if it went on for a few more years but they had to ruin it by dropping members and adding cm punk at the time

Nexus was so fire

@MinscnHamster

This picture demonstrates just perfectly what Bret Hart said about this era.. They are all just cookie cutter wrestlers. Not a single one of them stand out.

I hate this notion that the nexus were going to be insane and everyone was going to make it. Only 3 of them at most were and the others would've just been another body to the roster

@joeyeldrecht27

Not even close to the shield

@dev48504

Exactly. And The Shield had a member who is a second-generation wrestler and part of one of WWE's most influential families.

@lloydstanford6070

I wouldn't compare them to the shield. Nexus is basically one potential star surrounded by a bunch of goon NPCs but it still should have worked

@diegoprodriguez

Really only Barrett, Bryan, and Bray Wyatt (Husky Harris) are really the only people to gain legitimacy from their run in the Nexus, and for two of them, it came after their time was done with the group

I love the nexus team too

@ginoprimo5605

lol agree to disagree. There were a couple standouts…mainly Wade Barrett and Justin Gabriel but the other guys including David Otunga had a ceiling. Even “Skip” had to be repackaged before he broke that “ceiling”.
