An OT said to me: “Stop stretching your fingers! If you hand close up is better than having straight fingers on your hand, you could only slap people with it, instead if it is close you could grab objects. WORSE THING I HAVE EVER DONE WAS LISTENING TO HER, my hand was flexible when I stop the stretching spasticity and tone set in. I regret every day that I listened to her.

I know this is late and won’t make it to your video but I wanted to say that I haven’t listened to any of the doctors or therapist 100%. My stroke was 12/18/21 and it took out my right arm and leg. What I was surprised with was the things on the inside of my body that needed to be retrained, especially bowel and bladder. I’m still doing physical therapy and I can’t get occupational therapy in my area because there just aren’t any in the field in my area. So thank you for your help. I see improvement every day, they may be small, like I was able to move my little finger independently of my other fingers. That was a big thing. What I notice it regaining strength that I lost that is more difficult to measure. I am so glad I found your page because it has helped me so much. Thank you.

You've got 3 months and you won't see any improvement after. Is that a standard reply, only to psyche you out to do better than that? I'm 5 years post stroke and still seeing improvement!!!

"Alex, you are never going to walk again." My reply was,"Pish posh. Imma walk out of here. " I walked from the wheelchair to the car after 8 days in the ICU.

"We got the CT scan results & you didn't have a stroke" said every time in the ER. Six strokes later, I'm still here and still doing what I can 👍

You need to prepare for this life because it's not going to get better than this. This was said a few days after my stroke when I couldn't even sit up in bed. Also, you're going to have to feel pain to get better. Thank goodness I didn't believe them!

My doctor's have no real answers for anything, except to say, " it's stroke related". To say the least that's very frustrating

Tried different types of medicine and dosage but there is no decrease in numbness on right side. The numbness is slowing down the recovery journey. Could you please share your thoughts?

Still in ICU, 2 days post stroke, right side paralyzed: "Just "fling" your body around - that's what my grandpa did and he got better. We'll pick you up if you fall". Followed the next day by being told to "jump" up onto the sara steady.

My primary care Dr telling me that the nerve pain in my thighs is due to me being overweight, and that this kind of pain is common. I am sleeping in a high back wing chair because it's the only way to tamp down the "fiery" pain in inner thighs when I turn over in my bed, hence, the chair. But, now I have edema in my belly and lower extremitries from the chair, which caused the weight gain. I just Can't win!!! I

Some of the health care professionals say that it is not possible to get neurological recovery, and perhaps the patient has to spend the rest of the life adjusting with the reality. Though it is partly true but there is every chance to get near normalcy. Empathy and care from the caretaker/family members are of great help. Age and the other conditions may decide the fate. Fortunately for me, my wife and children are taking care of me.

Ok, the worse advise is actually from me, the guy who had a pons stroke. You wanna heal real fast? Six months in when you’re wondering will your balance or gait will be the last to heal. Just fall eight feet to the concrete. On your stroke side. On your hip bone. The muscles from your hip to your groin will seize up like a clenched fist complete with a handful of nerves that run down your leg. The most minute movement for four weeks and four days caused a 15 on a 1 to 10 scale. It was like having a nurse rachett with a cattle prod brutally analyzing your every move. With glee. Not only did I come out the other side of this with Better balance than before the stroke my gait was back to completely normal again. I’m moving around like I never had a stroke. So, the worse thing I’ve heard is me telling myself “you did it to yourself!” While healing at least another six months worth of healing in just over four weeks. So, if you’re frustrated over the pace of your recovery just jump off a ladder and make sure you really hurt yourself, let pain be your teacher.

After having the stroke, in the ER, I was diagnosed with middle ear infection. I was told to go home and given a sick note for a month.

I was asked by my former PT what I would like to work on and I said putting my pants on while standing up and she asked me why I wanted to do that for!! The following week I was dropped from their program and never given an acceptable reason. I'm still struggling with many things 😪
