All these are fascinating, but I'd say one of the things that interests me most about ancient cultures is their everyday life. How did they get food, water, how did people make a living, how was society structured?

The thing is, if a society is strongly influenced by mythological and religious beliefs, there's no way to understand it's developement without a close knowledge of it. A facinating example is how medival society perceived persons of colour. They were seen as interesting, as they obviously came from a different country and could be a source of valuable information about it. Their social standing would have been determined by their possessions (valuable or not) and by their travel company.However, they'd only be seen as equals ( to the locals) if they had some knowledge of the language and ( very important) were catholics.No man in western europe was truely respected, if he didn't believe in Christ.
