Eddie Palmieri

Today, Fania Records mourns the loss of the legendary Eddie Palmieri, one of the most innovative and unique artists in music history.

An award-winning pianist, composer, arranger, orchestra director, and producer, Palmieri began his career in New York City in the 1950s when he was only a teenager. He would go on to form bands like La Perfecta, La Perfecta II, and Harlem River Drive. Eddie also performed in concerts and recorded with the Tico All-Stars and the internationally acclaimed Fania All-Stars.

Over the course of his seven-decade-long career, Eddie recorded for labels such as Tico, Alegre, Fania, Concord Picante, RMM and Coco Records, leaving an indelible mark on over four dozen albums, including Palo Pa' Rumba, Champagne, Unfinished Masterpiece (with vocalist Lalo Rodríguez), Sing Sing, Vámonos Pa'l Monte (considered one of the classics of his discography), and The Sun of Latin Music, the first Latin album to win a GRAMMY in 1974.

He will be greatly missed.

My mother was a huge fan, she's visiting Puerto Rico with my sister and told me. Eddie was more then a musician, him, Ray Barrato and Mongo Santamaraia made music history at a time when music history was everywhere. R.I.P.
