Israel’s apologists will say — ‘look to other conflicts, why do you not care about those? Why are you singling out Israel?’

These are attempts to normalize Israel’s treatment of the Palestinians of Gaza.

But it is not only abnormal — it’s without precedent.

Not-so-fun fact: Even during the height of international condemnation, Israel STILL supported Apartheid South Africa. Real shocker, huh??

It’s also important to point out that most of the “other conflicts” especially in that region are actually directly connected to the colonization and ethnic cleansing of Palestine

The situation is also unique because Israel is engaged in a traditional form of colonialism that for the rest of the world has been dead for many years. The word “colonialism” tends to be loosely used to describe more modern forms of international exploitation, but in a strict sense of the term Israel is pretty much the only remaining true colonial state.

What Israel is doing exceeds the brutality of what other countries are doing.

I think for Americans it’s because our government is so involved, there’s no way this would be happening if the US was not holding Israel’s hand at every point and that bothers more than any other conflict going on.

Whenever you say look at them or what about them. That's an admission of guilt. You only point to others when you know what you are doing is wrong.

If any other nation acted like Israel has, every government in the world would have had no moral ambiguity or trouble condemning that nation and work to stop them and bring them to justice, as well as sanctioned them without hesitation. But since it’s Israel doing the killing and horrific slaughter, suddenly it’s a complicated question??

A Western citizen have every right to ask his government what they are doing with their resources and why they are giving out military aid to Israel including missiles and ammunition and airplanes and all sort of military stuff. These are democratic states in which the officials answer to people. You can't demand those states give you what you want then also attack the people that worked to pay taxes that ended up as aid to you.

They forgot they got their paws on every other conflicts. So yeah looking at other conflicts made me realize how evil these people are.

i think its because the US and South Africa are founded on settler colonialism so dealing with our own displacement of native peoples can be a hard thing to grasp and to deal with

Yeah, there’s nothing quite like this, in terms of how brazen, how rapid, how insulting, how dishonest, and how dangerous of a precedent.

This is not a “normal” conflict, I absolutely hate this excuse. The current Ukraine-Russia war has caused around 11k Ukrainian civilian deaths. This is a large scale conflict that has been raging for two+ years now (many more if you include 2014-2022) where shipping, transportation etc are all Military targets, there’s been massive urban battles in places like Mariupol yet somehow the IDF has “accidentally” killed over twice as many civilians while fighting over a single city defended by a military force that doesn’t even have tanks/IFV’s/aircraft barring gliders and only the most basic form of military infrastructure. There’s absolutely no way you can explain this outside of purposeful killing of civilians, even extreme incompetence can’t explain this.
