Lewie and the Rover

The First Week in Portugal 🇵🇹

We’ve already done so much! Compared to Spain, it’s definitely harder to find good wild camping spots here.

Since Covid and the van life boom, many places are overwhelmed with wild campers some stay for weeks and unfortunately some people leave behind a lot of trash. We totally understand why there are now more rules and restrictions, especially in National Parks where wild camping is officially forbidden.

But that doesn’t mean it’s impossible. With some patience, local tips, and a bit of exploring, you can still find beautiful hidden spots. The Portuguese people have been incredibly kind and welcoming it makes all the difference.

We’re traveling fast, so we’ve already seen a lot: the Algarve coast, the mountains, the wine regions… Portugal really has a lot to offer.

The last two days, though, it’s been nothing but rain. And this is the less glamorous side of overland life you don’t often see on social media, long hours stuck in the camper, playing games, watching series, editing videos. Not exactly adventure content, but it’s all part of the journey.
