I've noticed dark or black containers work best keeping the light out and algae growth from interfering with the nutrient uptake. If you could plant those containers in the ground at ground level then plant your plants in the growing medium the ground itself will keep those nutrients cool and better able to be absorbed by whatever you want to grow or eat or smoke. Need a flushing, no problem pulling up the plants and growing a medium 5 gallon grow bag up for example. Suck out the old nutrients with a shop vacuum. Add fresh new nutrient solutions.
