Hey Mark, thank you for sharing this. Gratitude is indeed a powerful healing medicine. I believe that if you dig deeper into the research, the key thing to point out for everybody is that we often misconceive what gratitude is. So no doubt it’s good to be thankful in your own heart for the things in your life that give you joy. 100%. That is gratitude and it has positive benefits for your own. But the crown jewel here, and what the research shows, is that superpower gratitude, the real healing gratitude, is when you receive somebody else’s gratitude towards you. So when other humans come up to you and thank you or show you by your actions that you’ve made a positive impact on their lives and that they’re grateful to you, that is what has massive, massive healing powers. And so the incentive here, the weirdly selfishly unselfish incentive, is to do tons of good for others in your community so that they will feel gratitude towards you. And that is the real health superpower.

A lot pf religious comments here which is great. Ive often thought that daily prayer such as "Our Father" was meant as a long term soothing tonic for peoples mental well being.

Dont have too much gratitude. You might just accept stagnation.

Maybe try giving victims and survivors something to be grateful for.

Harassing victims and survivors to be grateful isn’t actually helpful.

Gratitude rewires your brain for resilience.
New research published in Frontiers in Psychology confirms what many ancient traditions and modern healing practices have long known: Gratitude has a profound impact on our mental, emotional, and even physical health. 🧘🏽
The study looked at over 1,200 adults and found that higher levels of gratitude were directly linked to greater psychological resilience, lower symptoms of anxiety and depression, and enhanced emotional regulation.
Here’s what’s happening under the hood:
- Gratitude activates regions of the brain tied to reward, empathy, and emotion regulation, including the medial prefrontal cortex and anterior cingulate cortex.
-These areas are key for buffering stress, recovering from setbacks, and staying grounded in uncertainty.
