One Minimal Life

Thank you so much for visiting today! Great to see you! ☺️
Habit decluttering, especially habits that have been familiar, is a long, ongoing journey.
I found that reflecting on this from time to time really helps build new habits that serve us better. ✨
I'd love to share the step-by-step guide to the habit-breaking routine I used.
These can be applied to other habits too.

1: Set Environment 🏠
Track and reflect on when the habit happens.
What did you see/feel/hear when you did that habit? (Clock, snack, noise, notification...)
Remove the cause = Remove the trigger.

2: Aware of Trigger = Spot the Action πŸ‘€
When the environment is clear, it's easier to spot when the habit starts.
If a small sign (that the habit is occurring) appears, don't push it away.

Go into it and become aware that the habit is happening.
Know you're doing that habit right now.

3: Picture the Consequences, Not Rewards πŸ’
We often continue habits because of the "reward" that is familiar.
But when we refocus on the consequences of continuing, our protective brain starts working and begins to feel uncomfortable keeping it going.
And this helps us stop.

At this stage, thinking of rewards (of quitting) is less effective as we tend to act more strongly to avoid danger than to gain rewards.

4: Walk Away πŸšΆβ€β™€οΈ
An effective way for me to walk away from the habit loop is self-talk.
Questioning myself: "Are you sure about that?" Remembering step 3: Consequences.

Letting those habits go secures space to welcome better habits into life.
One habit out, one habit in. Replacing them one by one.

5: REPEAT πŸ”„
Habits aren't stuff, they're sort of fluid (or even like air). They can flow in through tiny gaps and stay. It's vital to keep repeating until it becomes natural.
I take time to get used to things when they're uncomfortable, so for me, some habit decluttering routines have taken years.

Please rest assured, it will work and you'll be fine even if it doesn't seem to be working within a couple of months.

The most important thing is to take care of yourself. πŸ’›
Do you have a habit-breaking routine that's worked for you? πŸ’¬
