Weird Explorer

I'm thinking of releasing compilations of my older videos.
What would you rather?

I think 20 bananas for 40 minutes might be too much for me but 40 minutes exploring a country would give a lot of variety and value.

Speaking of bananas, I can’t believe some people are voting for chronological order.

Hmm, I know it would be a bunch of extra work, but having the first two options would be great. Being able to see it both from the perspective of regional culture, and plant classification would be really interesting.

I would personally prefer the fruit grouped by country as that would create a GREAT resource for traveling! I think you have already done plenty of vids in the style of '10 Wacky Bananas' and they're already good.

The variety concept is really cool but some species might fall short of having enough variety to create a full video, I feel like. Having them grouped by country or region would keep it a little more flexible. Also, I have a feeling that more than one type of fruit in a compilation might be more engaging for a broader audience than us frequent fruiters. You may pick up a little more attention that way but it really depends on your perspective on growing the channel.

The homeschool curriculum we use touches on various countries each month - a bit of cultural exploration, a bit of history, etc. It would be fun to see fruits that are common in those areas that we wouldn't think of! The curriculum is called The Well-Educated Heart if it helps with your grouping things together.

I really enjoyed your nutmeg documentary where you went deep into exploring history and culture. I think that videos grouped by country could work to have a similar vibe where we can learn about the fruits how they are prepared and eaten within a broader context of local cuisine and culture.

I think both by fruit and by country are both great ways to sort it. You could get two videos out of the same footage and sort it both ways. You'd pick up fruit enthusiasts from the types of fruit as well as travelling folks by country

In defense of grouped by chronological order: What I assumed a chronological order vid would be is like an edited down recap of what you were up to in a given year, similar to your "I Spent 10 Years Trying To Eat EVERY FRUIT" vid or your Cloudberry vid where it's more of like a travel vlog and we can see your journey. Think it'd be fun to see you bounce around from country to country and follow your life over a year, or maybe it could be broken into trips where you recap your visits to countries. I also like how with chronological videos it will always be the most complete recap of a topic. There will always be more fruits from Jamaica that will need to be added to the list or more bananas, but the fruits you tried in a given time span will stay as those fruits. My favorite kind of videos from you is when it feels like I get a whole picture of a topic, so an edited down recap will give complete picture of the year and then I can watch the full version of a vid if it seems interesting. There's something compelling about the through line of your journey over a year, but to make it work it would require the most editing and some VO to help recap your year. I don't think anyone who is earnestly voting for it wants all of the 2016 vids to play back to back

What about some different "Top 10" style lists? Like sourest fruits, sweetest fruits, most hearty vegetable soup-tasting fruits?

I would very much like to see them by grow zone. Most of these fruit are tropical. I love to learn about them but will never be able to grow them in 8b Arizona. One of the best channels on YouTube. Thank you for all the time that you invest.

I think that compilations based on rarity or uniqueness would also be very interesting

@Fizechef

I think „by country“ is the better option as I could watch one before traveling for example to get an idea of what to try.

@1TakoyakiStore

An unrelated youtuber I follow (both in topic and tone) decided to basically re-edit all of his prior work into large multi-hour videos on a separate channel and would regularly let viewers know what they were and where to find them from his main channel. Might be worth looking into to see if that format works for you or not.

also- consider doing some shorts; your channel is a great resource, short can help reach others who might love to come across your work!

I like by kind of fruit because I'm still blown away by the fact that B oleacea, common bean, the three hot pepper species, the cultivate pea, and a few others account for such a huge variety of our food.

@MegaMoist

The videos I love the most on your channel is when you go into the different varieties of the same kind of fruit. Your citrus videos are awesome!

@WyattSpear

I voted for category but country would be interesting too. My main concern there is the ambiguity between fruit native to a region and fruit available in a region.

What’s most useful about your compilation videos IMO is the overall summary and meta analysis on a group of similar fruit. If researching citrus for example, comparing your review of one from 6 years ago with another in a recent video, the summary compilation videos give helpful context and color. But videos recapping trips and giving additional back stories to the videos, then presenting clips, could be fun.

We need like a long edit of the full chronological adventures of the weird fruit explorer
