Propane for the majority of stuff, but also have a solid fuel bellows forge for stuff too big for the gas forge.

Learned on a coal forge, but for the small setup in my backyard, propane is easier and I don't have to worry about burning my pieces

I started with a charcoal forge that burned pine wood or hard wood charcoal. I got the idea from Whitlox Forge who sells one like it. It's nice if you have a lot of pine to burn in It. You.dont need to turn the pine into charcoal because the forge does that but it's hard to find pine firewood. You can buy Harwood charcoal to use as well. When burning wood instead of charcoal it's very hot. I liked it anyway but couldn't find enough wood to be practical. I then made a gas burner and forge lined with homade refractory using perlite and grout. It worked but is not nearly efficient enough. I then built a gas forge using insulating fire brick. It works OK but I plan on building another to better suit my needs.

Started with a forge I made out of a BBQ filled with dirt and a break drum.bnow I have a single burner gas forge I use. Clean up is always better now. But at least I know I can always go back to charcoal if I need to

Actually I've bitumenous coal and a propane Forge. However I've not mastered the beginning phases of the propane as yet. Not sufficient time under fire to get it right. 🙏🏻🔥⚒️🧙

Well it's hard to pick because I use both coal and gas depending on the situation. You didn't have an option for that in your poll. Coal is now hard to get and expensive in my area, so I use it only for forge welding. I use gas for everything else. It sucks because I prefer coal and have been using it for over 30 years. But times change I guess......
