I may be bias I am form Michigan and the only people we really have out here not making regional music is big Sean and proofs son so I’m very much used to regional music and it helps with location identity Like our musical cousins the Bay Area in cali I can instantly tell when a artist is form them bay and due to us sharing a sound and doing it for so long I have a lot of west coast Bay Area artists in my playlist so it also kind of helps with discovery

Kendrick did it with GNX, Metro did with his new Mixtape. I'm down with going back regional but unfortunately not all sounds and all artists appeals to the masses anymore, the brand sells more than the actual music. The sound that sells the most in mainstream Hip Hop is for years is the 2010s Atlanta/Memphis Trap Sound with melodies.

I wanna say make the music that you like. If you can make the sound of where you're from. Embrace it šŸ˜Ž

Regionalism is dead in hip hop. It died around the early '10s when everybody started using trap beats and rappin' over boom bap productions. It died with cross-regional and even foreign collaborations. It peaked around the early '00s.
