That in order to celebrate Thanksgiving, you need Someone to thank; the founder of the feast: the Lord God almighty. Of course, I'm Canadian and celebrate in October. Same thing here though. To my American brothers and sisters, have a blessed and joyful Thanksgiving next Thursday.

That even in persecution, or trials and tribulations, suffering and struggles, God is still good. People suck but He deals with it everyday having to witness the evil condition of the world and people He created. So we lean on the Lord and pour out our Thanksgivings to Him! He will return to restore justice and make all things right.

In November of 2000 my children and I visited Plymouth, MA and saw a historical display about Native Americans in US history. We actually got there as the gentleman was closing up but he graciously gave us a private tour of the display and an overview of history which we found enlightening. He was a Native American and part of a movement to unite all of the Native American tribes, not for political aims but for preservation of histories, protection of their diverse cultures, and cooperation among the people. It hasn't happened, probably because every ethnicity, every culture, every people group is plagued with 100% sinners who seek their own selfish aims and will as a whole trample anyone in their way, even if they share ethnicity, ancestry, culture, etc. As for Thanksgiving, it is a time for thanking God for His mercy and His good gifts. What gifts? For one, if you're reading this you didn't die. And God doesn't owe us anything. We owe Him everything, thankless sinners that we are.

Regardless of the history, it should be a day to proclaim thanks among family for the blessings of God.

As a native American teach them FULL history and FULL truth. I thank God for thanks giving. The pilgrims and the natives came together during that time. There was a lot of violence and wars between tribes. While some were peaceful that does NOT mean every single one of them were. Neither that the peaceful didn't unwillingly get dragged into a battle they didn't want. A lot of people who came over here were facing extreme persecution and many had horrific experiences driving them out of their own land to anywhere they could go. The more we half teach history and sugar coat the rest or choak it up as less important because of--- the more problems we have as a society.

I fully agree with the comments here that we should tell the truth about our history, so let's look at it. The story of the first thanksgiving is very much mythologized. The Puritans were not running from religious persecution and weren't even the majority of the colonists. The reason they chose to go to the new world was that they didn't like that their children were aligning with the different form of Calvinism predominant in Holland at the time. The stated goal was to isolate their children in the colony so as to leave them no choice but to accept their extreme, backwards, and oppressive form of Christianity, much like many cults that isolate their members today. The Wampanoag weren't peace loving tree huggers sent by God to help the Puritans, the only reason they helped the colonists is that they had fallen on hard times and the chief was smart and figured Europian weapons could help him in conflicts with other tribes. The day of thanksgiving declared would have been the opposite of of the feast we imagine now and the Wampanoag were not invited. Instead it was basically an extra sabbith day that was to be spent in thoughtful contumplation and prayer to God. The feast did happen but was entirely unrelated and wouldn't be associated as such until the holiday of "thanksgiving" was introduced by Lincoln. However it was an important moment in Europian/Wampanoag relations that should not be understated. Tisquantum was taught English due to him being kidnapped by slave traders and was a prisoner of the Wampanoag. The reason he threw himself into helping the colonists was to make himself indispensable to them in order to use them as leverage against his captors. The real story of thanksgiving certainly highlights the determination and ingenuity of the human spirit, but it also highlights the dynamic nature, complexity and ultimately humanity of native cultures and shows the first signs of the oppression and violence that would define the relationship Europeans would have with them for the next 300 years. I agree that simply decrying thanksgiving as propaganda and yelling "white people=bad, native=good" is wrong. But boiling the question down to "woke=bad conservative=good" is equally inaccurate and disingenuous.
