Excited to share that Weed Dreams is now available as a docu-series!
We began filming for this project in 2018 after Oakland launched the nation’s first ever cannabis equity program. The program was designed to give entrepreneurs convicted of weed crimes in Oakland, and those who lived in the primarily Black neighborhoods targeted for arrests, a chance at ownership in California's new legal cannabis industry. The story follows several entrepreneurs participating in the program through 2022 as they navigate the ups and downs of trying to break into the industry, while striving to bring positive change to their families and communities.
This story and the story of the many other cannabis equity programs now in place around the country is still ongoing. Weed Dreams is just a piece of that story. It is an attempt to put a human face on what was a very novel concept back in 2018, and share the experiences of a few businesses over those early years. Perhaps one day we'll follow up with a new episode to cover everything that's happened since...
